>Avalon, Fibroids degenerate when they outgrow their blood supply- you can't guard against or prevent it. I've had several degenerated and calcified fibroids (have since had a hysterectomy).My impression is that they generally cause severe pain while degenerating, not after; however, they could still put pressure on surrounding areas. (I agree with your doctor- probably not over the hip bone.) There is a risk of infection, but I don't think it's very high (not a doctor, however)
