1-day yeast treatment

I am fairly certain I have a yeast infection (mild itching/soreness, white lumpy discharge, no smell). I have had yeast infecitons before, but not in several years. I used monistat-1 last night and awoke in the middle of the night to severe itching and burning, worse than it was before I took anything. This morning it is much better, but still worse than before I took the medicine. Should the symptoms have cleared up already? how long does it usually take with a 1-day treatment? Unfortunately, I am away from home and cannot consult my dr, so any advice is welcome.
