Early period while on birth control pill

I have recently started taking Wellbutrin and have been on the pill for 8 years. The past two months I got my period a week earlier than usual. I have read that Wellbutrin can cause irregular periods but does this mean the pill is no longer effective? so that I am risking getting pregnant?
