Being weaned off Effexor XR 75mg

I've been taking effexor xr 75mg for over two years, and now I'm being "weaned" off the drug. I'm now taking 37.5mg every other day for two weeks. I am extremely dizzy, and I can barely function. Is the effexor xr physically addictive? I can't drive, read, think--any time I move my eyes, the room spins. I've contacted my doctor and he says that there is nothing I can do until the effexor is out of my system. I had no idea that stopping taking the drug would be so difficult. How long will I be dizzy? Is there anything I can do? Is effexor xr physically addictive? No one told me this drug was addictive.
