Why can't I keep up?From: Avalon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 9 Feb 2003 16:27:43 -0600 (CST)
Hello, I'm 50 and have had somewhat erratic periods for about the past three years. My last period was six months ago, which is my longest "drought" by far, so I may be done. I have the following health "issues": --Endometriosis with nodularity in cul-de-sac and 6 cm endometrioma on left ovary (stable for several years) --Fibroid tumors recurrent after surgery 10 years ago (20 week presurgical uterus, 10 week uterus now) --Diagnosis of irritable bowel syndrome prior to above surgery based on negative colonoscopy --Menstrual pain since the very first period --Long history of mild to moderate chronic digestive problems --Perimenopausal symptoms, i.e., hot flashes, bedtime palpitations and odd sensations, for about 18 months I am a single professional working full time and commuting about three hours a day. In the past two years or so, mental and physical fatigue have made my routine increasingly difficult to keep up with. I rarely get more than six hours of sleep a night, often less, and I know that probably contributes to this difficulty. Perhaps the worst aspect of this is feeling misunderstood by friends, family and co-workers who, I suspect, think me a little lazy and self-centered. My question to you all is: Do you think it is to be expected that the above-mentioned physical health issues would make my lifestyle a bit difficult and lead to a need for more rest and sleep than I can find time for? Or would you assess more blame to insufficient sleep itself and possibly to depression? I would be equally interested in comment from health professionals and from women with similar issues. Thanks for reading! --Avalon
