Ovarian Cysts & Clomid

I have had problems with ovarian cysts off-and-on for about 6 years now and have been trying to get preganant for about 8 years. The doctor put me on birth control. I took them for a while but how can you get pregnant while on them. So I quit taking them. Now I get a cyst about every 6 months or so and it is very, very painful. When I ovulate I am in so much pain that I can hardly even walk. Usually I just deal with it and go one with my day.

Last May I had an HSG done to check for a blockage. I was pleased to find out that there was not one. Then last month I got an awful pain in my left side and I immediatley knew that it was another cyst. I went to the doctor and he confirmed it. I had 3 on each ovary. The ones on the right side were not a problem - yet. The ones on the left were. One of them was almost 2" in size. He decided to wait until after my next cycle to do anything. He wants to see if it will go away on it's own. If it doesn't, he will have to do laproscopy and then he would put me on birth control. I know that the birth control is to give my ovaries a break but how will that help me get pregnant? He did say that after the BC he wants to try Clomid.

I know that clomid can cause ovarian cysts. How will that affect me? Will it make my cysts worse or what? Please advise if the clomid is a good idea or if you have any ideas for my pregnancy quest.
