Ovarian cystFrom: Tricia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 7 Feb 2003 03:29:17 -0600 (CST)
I have been diagnosed with a 3.3cm cyst at the right ovary. The cyst was detected during my first prenatal U/S at 5 weeks for my first child. Went back for my postpartum check-up 10weeks after delivery. At that time, my mense has not returned as I was breastfeeding. The cyst is found to be still present (same size) and laparoscopy was recommended to remove it as there was a it is a bit solid (not completely fluid filled) upon transvaginal scan. A diagnosis of serous/mucinous cystedenoma was made(very likely) with dermoid cyst (not impossible). I am hesitant to go for laparoscopy due to the risks and side effects involved. BTW I am 27years old w/o any history of ovarian cancer. I am told that it could complicate pregnancy later on and that it may turn cancerous later (there is a 5-30% chance of this happening). Would it be better to wait for my menses to return before making a decision? Is annual monitoring better compared to laparoscopy as I have heard that cyst may return even after surgery?
