Agus and Pregnant - could this be the cause?From: Ruby (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Jan 2003 20:59:38 -0600 (CST)
I am presently 14 weeks pregnant. I recently received the results of my pap smear which was done at 9 weeks pregnant. It read something like "atypical endocervical cells" & "epithelial adnormalities". I am 33 years old and have never had an abnormal pap. I had an early miscarriage (5-6 weeks) last September and have no children. My last pap was 1 year and 8 months ago. My doctor scheduled me for a colposcopy at my next appointment - I will be 17 weeks. My doctor's office indicated that they will not do a biopsy when I am pregnant. I have done some research and discovered that pregnancy can result in an abnormal pap. Could it be the cause of my pap result? I also am very nervous to discover that this pap result indicates glandular involvement and possibly is caused by something that will not be seen when I have my colposcopy. How likely is a colposcopy without a biopsy going to really prove anything? I guess it could show if I have obvious lesions but it will not be definitive...correct? Can you help me out with this? Is it in-line for me to request that a repeat pap be performed prior to my colposcopy? Thank you---
