recomendations for women who do not tolerate pill due to emotianal sides effects?

I have been having cycles lasting an avg of 45 days. This apparent hormone imbalance is causing *extreme* irratability, anger, mood swings in my luteal phase (the week before my period) First GYn I saw said I have pmdd and prescibed prozac... I said no thanks... lets look for physical causes before treating symtoms. Second Gyn did physical exam, found an corpus luteum ovarian cyst... and sent me for a hormone panal blood test. He didnt say much, prefering to wait on results of bloodwork. He did imply he would place me on hormones to regulate my cycle and perhaps help correct any imbalance I have.

QUESTIONS: I have never tolerated the pill well. I wish I could and have tried many. The emotional side effects are unbearable. (Irritible, not weepy generally.) The doc implied perhaps the patch. I am wondering if the patch has the same emotiaonal side effects as the pill, ALSO, what about the new novo ring? Does it have the same emotional side effects? ALSO, what about progestine only pills? Are they less likely to have emotional side effects? In lieu of all those, is there ONE pill that is known to be more well tolerated by women who cannot generally tolerate the pill for emotional reasons? I am sweet and rational, but not on the pill ;)

Sorry, this is long, I am feeling desperate with all the confusing info online!
