First of all, why have you been taking the Lupron shot for a year? Are you aware of the long term side effects of this drug and the fact that it is only approved for re-treatment 1x in a lifetime - and then only when given with norethindrone addback (and only AFTER a bone density scan establishes that BMD levels are sufficient).

Second of all, you cannot take Lupron for birth control. No GnRH agonist is approved or even effective as a method of birth control. Your physician should have told you this and it's written in the patient education pamphlet that comes with the shot as well. Just because menses might cease does not mean you can't get pregnant. Lupron is a category X drug, which means if you DO get pregnant on it because you failed to use a barrier method, the potential effects to the fetus could be quite negative.

Your doctor is not doing you any service by allowing you to stay on Lupron for this extended period of time and using GnRH as your birth control method. That's just not ok, and you need to get a doctor who has half a clue.

If you disbelieve anything I've said, check with TAP yourself at http://www.lupron.com to confirm it all.
