Re: *Doctors - I too have questions about hormones and hypoglycemia???*From: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 23 Jan 2003 09:30:10 -0600 (CST)
Laurie, I'm aware of issues like cross-contamination and traces of gluten in things. I'm very aware of how to avoid items with gluten. I carry a list in my purse of forbidden ingredients and "okay to eat" ingredients. I rarely eat out and when I do it's to a selection of restraunts that have knowledge of Celiac Disease and have rules/precautions concerning it. Everything at home is cooked fresh, etc. Like I said I'm on a strict diet and don't eat anything that's questionable. I call the manufacturers of the products I eat to double check and make sure they are gluten-free and there's no cross-contamination problems. Also in my purse, I keep a list of the manufacturers contacted and what they siad, so that I don't have to rely on my memory. My pharmacy calls on all my medicines to check for gluten before the prescription is filled. I have been on this diet for awhile and only since my ovaries were removed have I had problems with fatigue, headaches, etc. It may indeed be my hormones. But with the recent diagnosis of my daughter and adult onset diabetes running strong in my family, I'm concerned. I've been on 3 different HRT combinations and I'm still having the same problems. Just another note, my mother had a hysterectomy with ovaries removed around my age and a few years later was diagnosed with diabetes. I may be worrying myself over nothing, but I think I'll ask the doctor to have me tested for it. Thanks for your reply!
