Any doctor who would dismiss lengthy bouts of fullness, bloating and vomiting in a 50 year old women as "probably just gas" or a "subconscious wish to be pregnant" is not a good doctor. Go to another one, insist on a pelvic exam, colorectal exam, and an ultrasound. Depending on the ultrasound results you may need some further tests. If ultrasound is inconclusive, insist on further tests. If I were you I would want to rule out ovarian cancer first. Then go to a GI doc.

Thank you Abby.

My doctor is a nice person but I have sometimes wondered if maybe he isn't the world's greatest doctor. He does not seem to like to do physical exams, and never does any more than listen with a stethescope and order tests and sometimes prescribe a medication. I do not even remember when is the last time he had me undress and put on a gown for an office exam.

But then again I have always been extremely healthy, so it hasn't really mattered much I guess. But this time I think it does matter, and as much as I like him as a person, my own health is more important than avoiding possibly offending him.

So I am going to request a different doctor (he is a Family Practice Dr, and I haven't had an ob/gyn Dr. since I had my youngest child 25 yrs ago, and he retired years ago).

Thank you for your comments, and best wishes.
