Did the tampons hurt me? Reply: William McIntosh, MD: "Re: Did the tampons hurt me?" I have always had really heavy periods and use super absorbency tampons. I started taking birth control 2 months ago and as a result, my periods have gotten a little lighter. This month it ended really light and I still used the super absorbency because it was all I had. I know that's a bad idea, and when I took them out mostly dry, it hurt. My period ended last Friday and I've had sex twice since then (today being Tuesday) and both times it hurt to urinate afterwards. The sex was a little painful upon penetration too, but the pain went away after about 5 seconds. I'm hoping that this is a simple as the tampons tearing me or something. Should I be worried that it's something else? P.S. I've never had this problem before now.
