Questions for an ObstetricianFrom: Ali (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 23 Dec 2002 14:16:09 -0600 (CST)
As a ninth grader, one of those gigantic, impossible projects has crept up on me and I'm stuck doing it over break. Anyhow, I am required to carry out an interview as part of a research essay on obstetricians. Although you might have answered many of these questions before, my teacher is adamant that we formulate our own. :\ Sorry. 1. What led you to become an obstetrician? 2. Are there any problems that are often encountered in this career? 3. What are the distinguishing factors that sculpted you throughout your schooling to become suitable for a career in obstetrics? 4. Are there any special abilities that you feel are important to become an obstetrician? 5. On average, how many patients do you see per day? a. deliveries? b. patient appointments (prenatal/postnatal care)? 6. What is the average mortality rate of the infants you deliver and the women delivering? (Have you ever lost a mother or child?) 7. Do you have people to assist you? If so, what is their position? 8. How long after the birth do you usually see the mother and child for, and how often? 9. In your experiences, are there more births by night or day? 10. Have the experiences throughout your training and career affected your life or your person in any way? If so, how? 11. Has the recent outbreak of malpractice suits, especially towards obstetricians, changed your feelings or performance in your career? If you could post your response or email it to me at aligirl404@hotmail.com, it would be great. Thanks! -Ali PS- If you are not an obstetrician, or feel you cannot competently answer these questions, do you know of anywhere where I can get them answered? Thanks.
