[Birth Control] 25, 1st time on Microgestin FE, previously Lo/Ovral and Orthotri, period not here yet. From: anonymous@obgyn.netThu, 19 Dec 2002 22:01:56 -0600 (CST)
Dear Sir or Madam, I will first provide you with some background information, then describe the issue at hand, and then pose a question. Any guidance you can provide in this matter will be appreciated. Sincerely, Concerned patient Background: I am 25 years old, healthy, married, working professional. I am currently taking Microgestin FE. I am on my first "batch" of pills of this brand. I checked that another batch has already been recalled for the same brand (which expires in 2003). The one I am on has NOT been recalled. I used to be on OrthoTriCyclene for a year, then I was not on the pill for 6 months, then I started back on Ortho for a year, then I switched to Lo/Ovral. After 5 months on Lo/Ovral, my doctor switched me to Microgestin FE. In the 6 months that I was not on any birth control, I had an unplanned pregnancy. I got an abortion. After this sad experience, I learned my lesson and my husband and I have been religiously practicing safe sex. While I am on the iron pills, we use condoms. Because this was my first month on the Microgestin, we have also been using condoms in conjunction with the pill. Issue: When I was on Ortho and Lo/Ovral, my period always started on a Wednesday or a Tuesday night during the "non-active" pill week. Following the same pattern, I should have already started my period yesterday. It is Thursday night tonight and I have not started my period yet. We purchased an over-the-counter pregnancy test (EPT) and administered it yesterday evening. It was negative. Because the non-active pills have not finished yet (will do so on Saturday, which is 2 days away), I still have HOPE. I will be going to my doctor tomorrow to have it checked out, but needed input in the meantime. I have heard that lower doses of estrogen may contribute to one skipping their period, but because Ortho, Lo/Ovral, and Microgestin have similar levels of hormone and because of my past history (unplanned pregnancy), I am concerned. Question: Would the change in the brand of the pill account for my period not starting on time?
