Increasing BP on Allesse, Questions on Nor-QDFrom: Kate (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Dec 2002 11:59:28 -0600 (CST)
About a year and a half ago, my blood pressure went abruptly from around 100/70 (been this way ever since I can remember) to around 130/85 (in the Drs. office & also self-checked at home). I have been taking BCPs (first Ortho Tri-Cyclen, then Allesse) for about 6 years. I'm a 33 yo non-smoker. I recently switched to a new GYN and he recommended I switch to the Progesterone Only Mini-Pill. My internist has done an exhaustive work-up on the BP increase and has found nothing- he says I can stay on Allesse. My questions are as follows: 1.) Is Nor-QD (the POP my GYN prescribed) completely free of blood pressure effects ? 2.) How long will it take my BP to normalize after stopping Allesse if that was, in fact, what caused it ? 3.) How bad are the side effects of the POP compared to Allesse ? Does it typically cause more weight gain, acne, etc. ? 4.) My GYN mentioned something about increased bleeding on this pill. If I have always been regular before I started BCPs, will the POP mess this up ? Thanks for your help !
