PPD and HysterectomyFrom: KIM (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 22 Nov 2002 18:43:23 -0600 (CST)
I am considering hysterectomy for adenomyosis. I have four children and with each childbirth I experienced extreme Post Partum Depression and so now I am very hesitant/fearful about messing with my hormones in any way. My doctor says that the uterus has no function other than to grow babies, but it seems to me that the uterus may be more complex. Do you think a hysterectomy (leaving my ovaries, obviously) could "mess" with the same homrones that caused my PPD in the past? Does a uterus affect other things or is it really just for babies? Thank you.
