Surgery DilmemaFrom: E (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 21 Nov 2002 11:37:54 -0600 (CST)
Ok, I'll try to keep this short and simple ... A wonderful lady from another board I belong to suggested I post here in the hopes that you wonderful ladies and Dr's may have some suggestions. I have suffered with Endo for years, and am currently suffering from constant debilitating pelvic pain, periods lasting for 2 weeks, pain during urination (and frequency), bowel problems (severe constipation and diverticulosis). Here is the dilema Was all set for a hysterectomy after all other treatments failed. I'm 35 yrs old, am done having children (yes, for sure - husband was "fixed" many moons ago Was not able to get appointment for 2nd opinion as other Dr didn't have any available openings before surgery, and I can't take this pain any more. So scheduled surgery. My Dr was apparently able to speak to other Dr by phone and discussed my situation. My Dr's recommendation was full TAH/BSO due to endo, adhesions, etc .... Other Dr's recommendation (the 2nd opinion) was for a laparotomy with only definate removal of my left ovary/tubes and more removal of endo implants ... So MY doctor changed the surgery plans ! I've been dealing with endo for too long ... I know that if they don't do full hyst with removal of my ovaries, the implants WILL come back and I'll be at square one again. Yes, I would be grateful for any kind of pain relief, but I was looking forward to LONG TERM pain relief, not Short Term. As I can't take BCP's and never have been able to, this is not an option for me after surg. I have also been through the 6 months of Lupron, so this is also not an option .. I don't know what to do now. Thanks for letting me vent and for any much needed advice !!
