Annie, the pain killers are probably contributing to the problem. they can be very constipating which can be very painful. usually docs advise patients to take a stool softener when taking narcotics. drink lots of water, eat small frequent meals, slowly increase your fiber and take walks all which might help until your bowels get back on track. to help pass gas, sometimes it helps to use gravity. you can try alternating lying on your side, then your back and then your other side.
