Bowel trouble....prefer a doc's answer....please help!From: Dawn (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 14 Nov 2002 13:47:55 -0600 (CST)
Hi, I didn't know exactly how to search for the particular problem I am having, so here goes. I was having severe constipation and started a high fiber diet last week. I had to end up using a combination of drinking milk of magnesia, taking peri-colace, drinking orange juice, and metamucil to push things out and then a huge mineral oil enema to help get it out. I then couldn't go the next day and then went just a little on Saturday without any pain. The stool was loose and I had no pain from my anal fissures (I have numerous ones.) I didn't go Sunday and Monday had to strain big time. Tuesday no go. Yesterday went, strained a lot and hurt my fissures. Agony! Today, I had to go home from work to go to the bathroom in peace. I had to strain and strain. A bit of pain. One thing I noticed, is that the stool is fibrous, meaning that it looks like processed plant. Could that be because of the metamucil? Should I decrease or increase the metamucil? I'm going to call a gastroenterologist today and see if I can get an appointment, but there's usually a few months wait. Sorry so long. Anyone have any ideas? I've increased water to 10 glasses a day and eat vegetables at every meal.
