Are you sure your iron deficiency anemia is due to heavy cycles? I, too, had cravings for sweets and other foods. Seemed to want to eat all the time and started gaining lots of weight. My doctors thought it was due to heavy cycles, but after a hysterectomy the iron deficiency progressively got worse. I was then tested for Celiac disease and had it. Now I'm on a gluten-free diet, iron numbers are great (of course I had several iron infusions after being diagnosed - iron taken orally made me sick), and have lost 20 pounds. You might want to check into it. There are some great web sites out there that will show you the symptoms, etc.

GOOD LUCK with everything!
