Heather, Dr. John Lee has written an excellent book on menopause that will answer all your questions (and some you didn't even know you had!). His website is http://www.johnleemd.com and his books are also available in many health food and book stores. You are correct about the "allergy" situation but the catch is that many of the hormones used in HRT are synthetic and not natural to the body so she could very well have a reaction to them. However, there are natural hormones available.
