Re: Pap smear questionFrom: Kristy (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 Nov 2002 23:07:29 -0800 (PST)
Alison, There are two new kinds of pap tests now: 1. the Autocyte and 2. the Thinprep. It sounds like the one that you had was an Autocyte pap smear. I just had an issue where the lab here in my area for my insurance only takes this kind but for Thinprep they have to send it to a different kind of lab. I don't have a link for Autocyte paps but if you do a search on Google or go to: http://www.autocyte.com (if this is the correct link) you can find out more about Autocyte. To learn more about Thinprep go to: http://www.thinprep.com. Not all insurance companies cover the Thinprep but a number of them cover Autocyte. However, what I've found over the last few years is that Autocyte is not that accurate in all cases. I had a Thinprep for the first time this year and it found an abnormality. Don't know what the abnormality is yet but I will be having a follow-up real soon. I hope that this helps. ===== Kristy :) http://www.geocities.com/sokokl/kristyspersonalpage.html I am a Medical Secretary who does a lot of learning from reading on the Net, books, my dr(s), as well as sharing my own personal experiences.
