HPV DNA typing test (how is done)

I must be mistaken completely I thought in order to have HPV DNA test done the sample of the cells are taken by Thin Prep and the only think that the doctor needs to do is to request some of these cells to be used for HPV DNA testing.

Please correct me if I am wrong! How is done?
