vaginosis and sperm -- related? prevention? questions!From: Jacque (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 31 Oct 2002 02:29:12 -0600 (CST)
Hi- I checked the archives, but I haven't seen anything like this addressed. It seems like I end up getting a bactirial infection just about everytime my husband ejaculates inside me (which is very sporadic, as we are not actively trying to concieve), but not everytime we have intercourse (which is often). Sometimes we use a condom and sometimes we don't, but I don't get an infection everytime he doesn't use a condom. So I don't think he is "re-infecting" me. Since I never had such infections before meeting my husband, I'm begining to think that his sperm inside me is throwing my "flora" off kilter. Bad naughty sperm! So I have a concern and a couple of questions. First, should we decide we want to start trying to concieve, I'm worried that I'm going to end up with another infection each time we try and I don't want to worry about that affecting my potential pregnancy. Second, is there some way to prevent this? I've read that using lactobacillus adolphis (sp?) caplets inside the vagina can help the good bacteria stay in a higher number. Is this true? Third, what happens if by accident he does ejaculate inside me, is there something I can douche with to help my ph go back to normal so I don't get and infection? I keep hearing that douching is bad, so I've been shying away from this. I dread having to go to the doctor and take anti-biotics every time. Fourth, is there something wrong with his sperm that we should get checked out if its so acidic(or is it basic?) that it changes the ph of my vagina that drastically? Thanks!
