HPV virus and Dysplasia in anus areaFrom: Maggie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 24 Oct 2002 06:21:34 -0500 (CDT)
I have just finished reading the book “What your doctor might not tell you about HPV and Abnormal Pap Smear” Very good book and at the same time very scary facts. The think that shocked me most is that if one has the HPV virus in the vagina and cervix area the virus could be spread into the anus area easily and NOT necessarily through anal sex. I did put to the test these knowledge today when I met with a colposcopist to discuss my results of the biopsy and if it is worth while to do the HPV DNA typing and guess what when asked if there is any test to check the anus area to HPV and Dysplasia (according to the book such test are done in USA and you can get Dysplasia and even cancer) he said that there isn’t any at all. My question is how rear is that to get HPV virus and Dysplasia in anal area? After reading and talking to the Dr. it seems to me there are still a lot uncertainty about HPV virus and it’s relationship with the person that has it. A lot of questions he could not give a clear answer like: Do I keep infecting my self with the virus by having sex with my husband? The answer: Not sure. He could not see any benefit for me of having the HPV DNA typing test done. The other thing I didn’t know is that you can transmit the virus to your baby while giving birth while the baby is passing through the cervix and the vagina. Any commons on the above is welcome especially the HPV and anus area. Concern lady Maggie
