HPV & cervical dysplasiaFrom: confused (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 15 Oct 2002 17:53:22 -0500 (CDT)
My pap smear showed mild dysplasia probable from HPV infection, according to the gyno. I have been with one partner, monogamously, for one year. He has had other sexual partners, and has never had genital warts. The nurse explained the many strains and said I simply have the viral strains of HPV, yet not the ones that cause warts on genitals. So I got HPV from my current boyfriend; fine. My questions are:
1. Even though I may not have genital warts, can I still pass on the HPV to any partners I may have in the future (assuming no condom use, which is unlikely, but I'm just curious)?
2. What are the negative affects of HPV upon men's health? I know it can cause cervial cancer in women...
and...
3. There is no cure, but can the virus ever permanently be expurged from the body by the immune system? And, if it is just lying dormant, can it still be transmitted? Phew. Sorry about all that. I've looked in the archives, but there's so much info that it comes across convoluted. Thank you!
