SERMS AS TREATMENT FOR DUB

I am 38 yrs old. I have always had irregular and heavy periods lasting usually for about 6 to 7 days. They come any time after 30 days to two months apart.4months back I began to bleed very heavily and the bleeding would not stop. My doctor prescribed ormeloxifene ( a SERMS ) two 60 mg tablets to be taken once on Sun and once on Wed for 12 weeks. I misunderstood her instructions and took just one 60 mg tblet instead of two. I had two periods in the last four months. Both were heavy and painful with a lot of clots. They stopped after 7 days. In the meanwhile, I underwent a pelvis and transvaginal scan. The results showed that I had bilateral poycystic ovaries and mild adenomyosis. The size of my uterus was normal. About 6 weeks back my doc dicsovered that I was taking the wrong dosage and then corrected it. Ever since I have been taking the correct dosage, I have not had a period. She has indicated that if this treatment does not work, she will do a D&C and then if that too Does not solve my problem, will have to do a Hysterectomy. My questions: Do SERMS successfully shrink adenomyosis? Are these drugs safe to be taken for indefinite periods? What are the bad side effects I should look out for? What are poly cystic ovaries? Do all women with polycystic ovaries develop PCOS? I have always had a weight problem, have in the past 10 years or so developed hirsutism and hair on the top of my head is thinning. My blood sugar levels are normal. Am I developing PCOS? If I need a hysterectomy, how long before I can get back to work? I work as a part time chemistry teacher.
