Skipped Period + Other Symptoms

I am a 31 year old female and am having menstrual irregularities. Went off Ortho Tri Cyclen on April 1, 2002 - had 4 normal periods - August period spotted a few days before beginning, had "normal" 7 day period, then spotting (dark brown discharge) for 2 weeks immediately after period ended. It is now October 2 and I have not yet had a period. I have NEVER skipped a period before this. Took an OTC pregnancy test and it was negative. Based on my calculations my next period is due this week (not sure however, due to the irregularity of my last period). Last week I had 2 days of a dark brown discharge on my toilet paper. Also had strong cramping pains for those 2 days around where my ovaries are located. Also, my abdomen has felt extremely bloated (having trouble fitting into my pants & buttoning suit jackets)for the last few weeks (Also on Niferex (liquid iron) for anemia and thinking that this could be causing the bloating). Should I be concerned about skipping my period? Is the dark brown discharge that I had last week indicative of ovulation (meaning my period is on its way)? Is the abdominal bloating caused by skipping a period, or the Niferex, or should I be concerned about ovarian cancer? I have been taking Niferex (liquid iron) for the past 3 months for anemia due to heavy periods and also began a rigorous walking program a few months ago - could these be contributing to my missed period? Could this be menopause? I have suffered from heart palpitations and night sweats recently, but I am only 31.

Please advise.
