Help please! Ovarian Cancer?From: Jean (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 19 Sep 2002 18:09:50 -0500 (CDT)
I fear I might have ovarian cancer, and my PCP and OB/GYN are not very knowledgeable about ovca. I'm trying to see a specialist in my area but have some trouble with HMO and may take long time. Meantime I'm looking for advice. What kind of tests should I request to my OB/GYN? To what degree should I be concerned? Personal info: -29 years old. 5' 2'' 103 lb. Never married, virgin. Has always had painful periods. 1. Pelvic ultrasound (performed on 8/16/02) Ultrasound of the pelvis: Multiple longitudinal and transverse gray scale real-time echogram were obtained. There is no focal mass in the uterus. There is no hypertrophy of uterine endometrium. The left ovary measures approximately 2.5 x 2.5 x 2.0cm and normal in echogenicity. There is approximately 5 x 4 x 5cm cystic mass with thin internal septations in the right adnexa. There is no soft tissue component in the mass. The walls of the mass are thin. There is no abnormal fluid collection in the posterior cul-de-sac. Impression: A 5 x 4 x 5cm septated cyst in the right adnexa. The differential diagnosis includes cystadenoma, functioning cyst, teratoma and less likely endometrioma. Follow-up study is recommended. 2. CA-125 level: 46 (performed on 9/3/02, a day before period began): 3. Symptoms -bloated abdomen (as long as 1 year or maybe even more); lower abdomen pain(since 6/29/02) both twinging type in both right and left sides and duller type in uterine area, persistent but intermittent; change in bowel habits and poorly digested stools; frequent urination 4. I have gastritis and was often prescribed Aciphex due to acid reflux. My father's half-sister has had breast cancer. My aunt on mother's side died of certain type of cancer
