breastfeeding and osteoarthritisFrom: eva (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 12 Sep 2002 03:52:13 -0500 (CDT)
Can breastfeeding cause onset of osteoarthritis? I am 42 years old. My baby (my 3rd child) is 5 months old, exclusively breastfed. Two months after the birth I started having knee pain, stiffness, swelling, and crackling noises. The pain is so bad that I can barely do even the lightest housework. I just creak around the house like an old grandma. I've had some occasional knee aches and pains in the past, but never anything like this! I walked regularly through my pregnancy with no difficulties, and prior to pregnancy I was a runner/weight lifter. Now even the mildest exercise is out of the question. I know we are probably talking about "wear and tear" here, but could the onset of this be related to breastfeeding? Can I hope that after weaning it might improve? I appreciate any info. Thank you very much "grandma"
