Re: questionable hygiene at ob-gyn's office

Hi,

I just wanted to ask about something that bothered me at the doctor's office-yesterday I went to see a nurse practitioner at my gyn's due to some pelvic issues (mild occasional flank pain, some vaginal itching). Anyway, when she came into the office she washed her hands, then lifted the lid of the garbage pail to throw out the paper towel. Afterwards, she did an "external" exam-(abdomen palpation), then told me she was going to do an internal pelvic. I know for sure that she wore a glove on one hand (hopefully the one she used to conduct the exam!) But I'm not sure if she wore one on the other when she inserted the speculum. At any rate, here's my question-is it possible to get an infection (ie an std) from this scenario? I'll admit I'm a bit of a germ-phobe, and this whole thing got me a bit nervous...

Thanks for your time!
