possible ovarian cyst, endometriosis or both

I am 23 years old and have been menstruating normally for 12 years. I am not on any medications. For the past 3 or 4 cycles, I have been having midcycle spotting and pain. I realize that this could be due to ovulation, though this has never happened to me before. Last cycle, around day 15, I had a few spots of pink watery blood, and about one hour later I experienced severe pain where I had to lie down right away(on the bathroom floor). I also have been experiencing pain AFTER sex, sometimes it is sharp and shooting pain, and sometimes it is just crampy. I have no STDS and am almost positive I have no infections (no symptoms.)

During my pelvic exam yesderday, the doctor said that my right ovary felt enlarged - though that it could just be a normal follicular cyst. She also said that I may have endometriosis, because I have bad menstrual cramps and pain after sex. I am going to have an US on Monday. My three questions are: would an ovarian cyst cause midcycle spotting and pain, and what is the protocol to determine the etiology of the cyst? #2 - I have only been having pain after sex for about 6 months - if I had endometriosis wouldn't this symptom have showed up earlier? #3 Do you think that a vaginal or abdominal US will be done, and how likely can it detect endometriosis or an ovarian cyst? Thank you very much for you help.
