Re: pain caused by scar tissue after laprotomy? From: Kayla (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 23:20:22 -0500 (CDT)
Clare, I actually had a laparatomy for ovarian tumors, that were removed and I continued to have pain....so several months later, my gyn did a laparascopy and found adhesions, scar tissue and ENDO...so I was very relieved that she did this minor procedure. The pain has decreased to almost nothing....I can actually function. Dr. Cristalli is correct, nothing can really prevent scar tissue or adhesions...there are different methods that researchers are determining their effectiveness and trying to improve them. I had adhesions on my bowels too, but that is something that you would want to have a gastro md there assisting your gyn....Laparascopy involves much less risk for more adhesions to form compared to a laparatomy BUT it does happen. I hope this helps!
