Re: Anesthetist ?? Anesthesiologist ?? Before 03 Sep 2002From: ams (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 31 Aug 2002 18:39:27 -0500 (CDT)
An anesthesiologist is an anesthesia doctor who assesses you, decides what type of anesthesia will be appropriate for you. The anesthetist is usually a PA or an RN that specializes in anesthesia. They work with the anesthesiologist to give you the medications, monitor your status, and observe you very carefully. In the hospital where I work, the anesthesiologists are assigned to an area that they know ahead of time (like L&D, outpatient surgery, inpatient surgery, GI lab, breast center, etc) but they do not get assigned ahead of time to cases. The anesthetists are assigned that day to their cases. So, it is unlikely they know who will be administering your anesthesia at this time. As far as your fear and cancelling your procedure, keep in mind that most people are scared of such things. They usually will give you something to help you relax when you get there. Perhaps you will get a clean bill of health after your done, and the relief will be worth it.
