LAVH / prolapseFrom: barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 30 Aug 2002 20:37:52 -0500 (CDT)
My family practice MD has recommended a LAVH (total) for prolapsing "everything"...however I am concerned about loosing the ovaries. My hormonal levels are currently wnl even though I have only had five periods the past year. I am 51. I had been on Mircette for a couple of years prior to stopping one year ago and physically and emotionally feel much better. The rationale for taking everything was that I probably only have two more years at best of use from my ovaries and if I keep them then I will always have to be concerned about ovarian cancer in the future (no family hx ever). Even though I may have only two yrs of hormonal production before my ovaries die, the contoversy remains regarding HRT/breast ca etal. Is two more years of natural production, albeit probably inconsistent, better than synthetic. Am I missing something here? Thank you for your thoughts and comments. Barbara
