Could this be PCOS?From: Luise (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 26 Aug 2002 12:08:27 -0500 (CDT)
Since I stopped taking BCP's last October my cycles have been very irregular, they have never been irregular before now. I was very skinny as a teen, since I was 19 I gained 60-70 lbs over a period of about 8 years. I reached my peak of about 165 lbs a few months ago, and since starting exercise and eating right I am now back at 137 lbs. My cycles since I stopped taking the pill have varried in lenth: Cycle 1: 90 days long. my period was long, I spotted for over a week and then had heavy bleeding for 5-6 days and more spotting after. blood was very dark and had many clotts Cycle 2: 30 days long. period was normal, lasted 3-4 days Cycle 3: 55 days long. period was very light, lasted only 2 days with spotting on day 3 Cycle 4: 31 days long. period was normal, lasted 4-5 days Current: it has been 95 days since my last period. I have had some cramping on and off all cycle, and a spot or two about once a month. I haven't ovulated yet this cycle (I did ovulate in cycles 2-4). Blood results from three weeks ago: HCG:<10 LH:16 FSH:6 Testosterone:5.8 Progesterone:1.5 Free Testosterone:15.9 Estradiol:217 I had an ultrasound done 8 weeks ago and I had poly-cystic ovaries. Since I stopped taking the pill my ACNE has flared up pretty badly, almost as bad as it was when I was a teenager. I thought that I had out-grown the ACNE!
-- When I asked my doctor about PCOS he didn't know what it was. I go to see a specialist in October. Is all of this consistent with PCOS? What do I need to know about further tests/procedures that should be done to clarify the diagnosis?
