Surgery to remove ovarian cyst ??

One of the arguments against laparoscopy for a known malignant cyst is that the cyst may be punctured or ruptured during laparoscopic removal and the fluid then spread cancer cells throughout the abdominal cavity. If an apparently simple cyst does contain cancer cells and that cyst ruptures can its fluid then spread those cancer cells throughout the abdominal cavity?

I am 10 years post menopause. I've indicated I prefer the full abdominal incision rather than the pubic "smiley" or the laparoscopy. Several of my friends, some of them nurses, think I am foolish that I've opted for the laparatomy rather than laparoscopy.

I've had the pubic "smiley" for a tubal ligation. I've had the full abdominal incision for intestinal surgery. I didn't experience the gas pains everyone complains about after laparascopy and am not interested in experiencing them. I didn't find the "smiley" or the full abdominal surgery recoveries that painful or difficult. (Of course I was in my early 30's then).

I never thought to ask - since the cyst is on the left ovary will they or won't they use the old intestinal surgery incision? It is full length but goes around the right side of the naval instead of the left.

The decision I am having trouble making is whether to have the surgery performed by a local gyn whom I like very much and have been comfortable with or at a nearby top national teaching hospital for both gynecology and oncology departments by a gyn/onco whom I personally dislike despite his being the dept head. My dislike has nothing to do w/his surgical skills, he is excellent. He just has too much ego which rubs me the wrong way.
