Re: cystic mass where ovary was removedFrom: D.N. (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 22 Aug 2002 16:05:16 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, I am sorry that you are experiencing these problems after the surgeries you have had. I too, went through a similar experience. I have ORS (ovarian remnant syndrome)and endo after having a TAH/LSO in 95 and RSO in 97. I had strong meno symptoms after my last ovary was removed and went on Premarin. About 4 months later, I was have the old familiar ovulation pain. After charting my basal body temp, vaginal US, blood tests (after going off Premarin), they all showed that I had a remnant. Much later, I read my post-op report and it said that they were not sure that they got it all out because the mass was wrapped around my ureter (the right ovary). At the time of my hyst, my left ovary/tube were adhered to my uterus and that whole mess was stuck to my sigmoid colon. Interesting, my right ovary at the time of the TAH was not diseased at all. I was also not told that that could happen. I would have never dreamed that this all could continue after the surgeries. I can sure understand your frustation. It will probably be better if you can medically manage your situation vs. more surgery since there is no guarantee that it can be removed successfully. However, I have spoken with some women who have had it removed and not had problems that I know of. It is hard with continued surgeries and more adhesions, etc. I have tried continuous BCP's, Prometrium. I had to quit because of side-effects. If you do go the surgery route, either have an endo specialist do it or a surgical oncologist who knows how to find a needle in a haystack. Also having back up GI/GU people in case of other complications. Please write back if I can answer any more questions for you. Best wishes, D.N.
