spotting off and on forever...

I started bcp in Nov '89. By summer 1990 I started spotting so my ob/gyn changed pills. They were fine for a while. Started spotting again--different pills. Had our first child in 1995 and went back on bcp. Same deal with the spotting. Stopped taking them and had our second child in 1998. Back on bcp. Back to spotting. Doc said he thought it was hormonal since occured at the same time every month. Switched pills. They were fine for about 3 months and the spotting started again. Stopped pills shortly thereafter and had our third child in 2000. Back to pills, same story. They were fine for a while and started spotting again. In Dec 2001 I took my last cycle of pills and quit. We are not trying to conceive at this time, I just wanted to see if my spotting would go away when I stopped the pill. It didn't. I had a period July 17-23. August 1st started spotting (mostly brown, some pinkish some tiny tiny clots) and it's Aug 15 and it still hasn't stopped. Scheduled for pap in Nov. Should I be seen before then? What's going on?!
