Drug allergy ? - Still getting hives.From: Anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 14 Aug 2002 10:42:34 -0500 (CDT)
I have had 4 allergic reactions(?) to various drugs in the last 5 weeks. All of these resulted in hives. Three of the drugs were in the same class of drugs, so their components were probably very similar. The last drug, however, was a Lupron injection on August 1, which is in an entirely different class of drugs. My doctor did not believe that I could be allergic to the Lupron, so he has tested for diabetes and done a chemistry panel, which revealed nothing other than elevated lipid levels. I have been taking Atarax for the last 5 days, but the hives are not stopping and in fact, in the last day have started to get worse again. I believe I heard somewhere that someone had another allergic reaction triggered around 15 days after their injection, which is about where I am. Does the fact that the Atarax is not working seem to indicate that I might indeed be allergic to the Lupron? I'm not sure what to do. I won't see my doctor again for 9 days, and I don't want to keep bothering him (I've have had to see him and/or talk to him on the phone at least once a week for the last 5 weeks). My doctor wanted me to take the Atarax for 5 days, which would have ended yesterday. I don't know whether to keep taking it or just give up and itch. It seems like if the Atarax is not helping, there is no point in taking it. Any suggestions or helpful advice? Thank you.
