If its a laparaoscopy, it can be just a few days; laparotomy will be longer. It might be easiest in your case to ask for pain medications before hand and have them ready when she comes home. Make sure that any clothes she has (including underwear) are very loose and do not sit on the puncture holes or scar area. My 16 year old has been set up for surgery next month to have a
transverse vaginal septum removed and to address a 3"x3.5" mass on one
of her ovaries.  She had quick onset of hirsuitism, obesity, dark
pigmentation of skin in neck area.  The kicker is that usually a woman
would have no history of periods for this diagnosis.  However, in her
case she did have them and then they stopped.
Does anyone out there have any help to provide as to what recovery is
like from this kind of surgery and what she/we should expect, in terms
of recovery time, pain, how to comfort her, etc.  We realize that the
septum could be any thickness and that will determine the degree of
surgery she ends up actually having.  But, as her caretaker, I'd like to
know what to expect.  I also care for my demented/arthritic 92 year old
mother in our home, so I will need to be organized and empathetic.
