[Birth Control] Switching to a new pill mid-pack?From: Ericka (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 8 Aug 2002 22:39:18 -0500 (CDT)
I am currently taking the Estrostep birth control pill for contraception, but am having horrible side effects. Of the eight packs of pills I’ve been through, I have had breakthrough bleeding four times, weight gain, awful PMS, and horrible acne. The acne is in all over my face and also on my back, chest, tops of my breasts and my neck. I am 25 and only had acne occasionally (which I controlled with OTC meds) before I started taking this pill. It is very embarassing socially and professionally. My gynecologist gave me a prescription for Yasmin yesterday, and I am anxious to ditch the Estrostep. Would it be safe for me to stop the Estrostep mid-pack and start taking the Yasmin? If it is safe, should I start at the beginning of the pack, or take the day’s pill that would coordinate where I was on the Estrostep? I have taken 5 active pills on the Estrostep this month. My main concern in this possible switch is not becoming pregnant. The first day of my last period was July 30th. Thanks for all the advice!
