Oral Contraceptive and Pre-Period StartFrom: Kate (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 5 Aug 2002 23:20:44 -0500 (CDT)
Question: I'm 29 and not pregnant. After beginning off the pill for two months I've recently started up again. I'm currently through half of my first pack (Orthotricyclen). I was told to start the pill on the first day that my period and/or spotting started. Upon feeling and seeing evidence of this I commenced taking the pill, but my period failed to come other than a few days of very light spottiing. (I have not been sexually active.) Now after a week and a half of continuing to take the pill, there is strong evidence that I'm having my period now. (No, I have not missed or been late with any pills.) I'm sure I'll be fine if I did take them during the right time, but what if I didn't? Will I be safe to have unprotected sex during the second pack of pills? Do I need to complete this pack of pills, forgo the sugar pills and substitute a week and a half of active pills to bring me back up to my regular cycle to avoid get pregnant during my second pack? Is there anything I can do? Am I worrying unnecessarily? Any information welcomed. Thank you, Kate
