Re: Total hysterectomy and HRTFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 2 Aug 2002 8:02:13 -0400
Since I'm sure this is going to come up, in addition to my previous posts (see archives) about the FDA going after companies for progesterone cremes, lack of safety and effectiveness data and other info(http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health/WHF.0207/2350.html, http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health/WHF.0208/0205.html, http://forums.obgyn.net/womens-health/WHF.0207/1966.html), just want to point out a few things: 1) like on http://www.quackwatch.com, if it sounds to good to be true, it usually isn't. Conventional medicine gets studied and tested, so that pros and cons are both known. That's not always true for anything that is OTC. 2) beware of statements that aren't backed up by specialists (ie ob/gyn types) and things that go against common tested scientific knowledge 3) horses are in the same species as humans, plants aren't 4) http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,58769,00.html 5) realize that the $ level in 'alternative' medicine is about that spent on conventional medicine, so any charges of being out there for the $ for drug companies can also apply to alternative medicine treatments 6) Ephedra or ma huang (natural herb) is getting looked at in Canada to be restricted due to deaths, heart problems and stroke: http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/english/protection/warnings/2002/2002_01e.htm 7) Check out this story on diet pills in Japan from China http://www.reuters.com/news_article.jhtml?type=healthnews&StoryID=1281830. There are questions in regards to the drugs, as without oversight, you are your own testing study. It may work, it may not, but you are at your own risk.
