Thick Menstruation

I am asking a question for my girlfriend. Her previous two menstruations were different from usual. The blood texture changes from free-flowing form into thick, gelly like. Also, her blood amount seems to become smaller than usual. However, she doesn't feel any particular pain and her cervical mucus changes as usual (so I assume her ovaries were ovluating as usual)and feel the same PMS as usual. Before going to see a doctor, I want to ask whether it is a serious issue or just a normal one. Looking forward to your replies.
