endometriosis & phlebitisFrom: anonymous (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Jul 2002 17:27:31 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I had my 6th laparoscopy in May to remove endometriosis and was taking Alesse continuously and Vioxx. About 3 weeks ago, I was diagnosed with phlebitis and told to take aspirin and use heat for the pain. I was also told I should contact my gyn to find out if I should continue taking the Alesse. My gyn told me I need to stop immediately. Since then, I have had a lot of pain on the left and I finally got my period about 5 days ago. About 1 1/2 weeks ago, I was hospitalized and diagnosed with H. Pylori, several ulcers & a hiatal hernia. I was told I had to quit taking the aspirin and Vioxx because of the ulcers. While in the hospital, they used heat almost constantly on my leg and the phlebitis seems to have resolved. I saw my gyn about 1 1/2 weeks ago and he told me I couldn't take any birth control pills anymore because of the phlebitis and my only option for treatment for the endometriosis is surgery...either more laparoscopies or a hysterectomy. Now, my gp has told me that is was just "superficial" phlebitis. From everything I have read, "superficial" phlebitis is not serious...I'm wondering if this changes the issue regarding birth control pills? I was taking continuous birth control pills after having endometriosis removed in January, 2001 and still had more endometriosis that had to be removed. I have had a lot of cramping with this period and it doesn't seem to be stopping any time soon. I'm concerned that if I stay of the birth control pills for a prolonged period of time, I'm going to be having more problems with the endometriosis. Do any doctors have an opinion regarding this issue?
