[Birth Control] Thyroid/PregnancyFrom: Rhianna (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 25 Jul 2002 21:30:49 -0500 (CDT)
I am 26 years old and was diagnosed 5 years ago with an enlarged goitre/thyroid (with multiple cysts growing on it). Apparently my blood levels are fine and the thyroid is of normal function. I took an ultrasound recently and apparently the gland has grown slightly since my last scan over 2 years ago. My question is that I want to try and fall pregnant early next year however I'm scared that I will develop an over or under active thyroid during pregnancy. How often should I test my blood during pregnancy and if detected early, will I be able to carry a healthy baby to term? Also my doctors seem to think these cysts are not cancerous just by looking at the ultrasound and my blood. Is this right? Should I be doing further tests. My doctors say I have had these cysts for at least 6 years now. Please help me, I am really starting to fret.
