Hi Ann, I'm not a doctor but I just encountered a similar situation. My gastro ordered an abdominal CT scan to check out my Crohn's disease and while the bowel looked normal they did find a cyst on one ovary.

The CT scan is helpful but it isn't the be all and end all. The CT scan may be able to indicate that it is a functional cyst which is common in women of child bearing age. IN such cases they will often elect to just monitor things for awhile as they often resolve themselves. In my case, even tho the cyst appeared to be a functional cyst, since I'm 10 years post menopause, an abdominal ultrasound was ordered and immediately after they also did a transvaginal ultrasound.

The ultrasounds are interesting because you can watch them on the monitor. They give a much better picture of whether a wait and see attitude or further investigation is indicated.
