publicity stunt, myth, or could this possibly be true...OTC and cancerFrom: Victoria (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 10 Jul 2002 12:52:36 -0500 (CDT)
I was watching television yesterday when one of those dial-a-lawyer medical claims commericals came on. It stated that taking birth control pills for longer than 5 years has now been shown to cause cervical cancer and if you or a loved one had taken BCP to call. Most of the time these things have some element of truth to them, but this one I'm pretty sure is wrong. Hasn't it been shown to be safe to take BCP for years without increasing cancer risks? I thought that it even decreased your chances of getting certain reproductive cancers. I took various BCPs without a break for 7 years before becomming pregnant with this baby and had planned to go back on them when safe after the delivery. Should I be concerned? I always get my yearly paps, usually for one reason or another end up getting several pelvic exams and sometimes 2 paps in a year, and have never had abnormal results. Thank you for any help you can offer:o). Have a wonderful day!!!
